ARTIST STATEMENT
Although many of my works reference nature and evoke a sense of “landscape”, this reference usually is not specific during the creation of the work. Figures, animals and patterns also make appearances and combine to create a sense of narrative and mystery. In recent years, texture, both implied and material, has become more important in the work. Often this texture takes the form of fiber, handmade or found, collaged into mixed-media pieces.
My recent studio work is divided between several disciplines and multi-media approaches: painting, fiber, mixed-media sculpture and mixed-media collage. My working method is mostly intuitive and I rarely begin with a preconception of what will emerge. I often work within these disciplines at the same time, moving back and forth between them as different bodies of work develop simultaneously.
